In ‘Shells and Time’, written in 1968 by Italo Calvino, a shell describes the formation of the world and the invention of time from the perspective of the seafloor. The shell explains how it gradually becomes part of what it’s observing as it is crushed and fossilised, contributing to another sedimentary layer in the rock.

Remains is an ongoing series of works, which bring the voice of the shell into contact with different localities, and reverse the end of the tale, giving the shell back its narrative voice.
